Yes, you can learn to play the canjo. The canjo is an Appalachian instrument with just one string and a can at the bottom. It’s easy to play and easy to carry. Your instructor will provide an overview of the history of the canjo, and then students will be able to build and assemble their own canjo. Students will learn to play the canjo and get a chance to play songs together. And guess what, no need to know how to read music…just be able to count! By the time you leave, you will be playing like a professional.

Our Seniors Canjo Worksop is designed to bring the joy of canjo music to the elderly. Canjos are fun and easy to assemble. The instructor will provide an overview of the history of the canjo, then students will assemble their own canjo. They will learn to play the canjo, and get a chance to play songs together. And guess what – no need to know how to read music! By the time we leave, the seniors will be playing like a professional

In this workshop, students will build a Bongo Cajon with a kit provided by the Porch Music Store. Participants will first assemble their Cajon using fast-drying wood glue and clamps.
While the glue is drying, we will demonstrate a variety of small percussion instruments, share their origins, and have participants try each instrument. We will then experiment with rhythms in a drum circle using a combination of percussion instruments, including their newly built Cajon’s.

It’s always fun to gather the kids or friends to do a project together – especially if it’s musical! Porch Music Store bell shaker kits contain everything you need to make your own jingles. You will learn some history of percussion instruments, experiment with creation of percussion sounds, and assemble your own bell shaker to take home.
The workshop ends with playing together as a band or full percussion orchestra.
Assemble your own Porch Music Store washboard. This is a great workshop for ALL ages.
Workshop comes with a washboard, strap, call bell, cow bell, wood block, instruction, etc.
We will end with a good old-fashion Porch Music style sing-a-long. You too can be part of the band!
