Frequently Asked Questions
What instruments do you offer lessons for? Currently, we offer guitar, ukulele, keyboard/piano, voice, percussion/drums, baritone ukulele, woodwinds, brass, & more. We’re always adding instructors, so if you want to learn an instrument that isn’t listed, feel free to contact us to see if we’ve added it!
How do your lessons work? Students REGISTER ONLINE or in the store and will then be prompted to schedule a time slot, typically for half an hour once a week.
Where do your lessons take place? We have a beautiful studio space at 1253 Liberty Street, complete with 4 lesson rooms and a parent waiting area.
How often should I schedule my lessons? For consistent growth, we recommend taking lessons weekly. We do offer bi-weekly lessons for some of our busier students.
How much are your lessons? $17.50/half hour, with varying rates for other lesson lengths.
Are books included? No, all the books we use are stocked at Porch Music Store and can be purchased at any time. Students are welcome to bring their own learning materials as well.
Does every student go through the same program? Nope! We have some standard method books that are used as a guide for skill development, but all of our instructors enjoy customizing each student’s lesson according to the interests and strengths/weaknesses of the student. Every student is different, as is every lesson.
Who are your instructors? Our team of active instructors currently consists of Iris Callahan, Logan Green, Cameron Hornberger, and Deanna Wolfgong.
Do I have to bring my instrument to my lesson? Yes! Students playing hand-held instruments such as a guitar, violin, or ukulele are expected to bring their instruments to lessons. Keyboard, percussion, and vocal students are not required to do so.
What happens if I want to cancel? You can view our complete cancellation policy HERE, but you can call the store or cancel online up to 24 hours prior to your lesson to receive credit for your lesson. Lessons canceled after that point are the student’s financial responsibility.
What about snow? You can view our complete severe weather policy HERE.
How often should I (or my child) be practicing? Every teacher has different expectations, but a good place to start is by practicing for the length of the lesson 4 times a week. Check with your instructor for more clarification.
